Injury Updates (Sep 26)

It sounds like forward Alex Steen was held out of the St. Louis Blues' preseason line-up against the Blue Jackets, due to being 'banged up.'  The injury isn't believed to be serious, rather the team wanted to keep him from getting any worse before the season starts.  Steen will be listed as out day-to-day, but being this banged up before the season starts should be rather concerning, especially since he has had some injury trouble before.

The word is finally in on Jordan Staal, about the extent of his broken leg, and the word is not positive, at all. Staal is going to require surgery on his broken leg, which means that the 26-year old centre will now miss 3-to-4 months in recovery.  A return in January/February now seems most likely and now he possibly becomes an addition in the second Waiver Draft of the year in the hockey pool.  He can only hope that his Hurricanes are still in the playoff mix by then.

Well, if the Pittsburgh Penguins were having any luck, it would be bad luck in camp. On Friday, forward Beau Bennett had to be helped off the ice at practice, after falling awkwardly in a collision with teammate Kasperi Kapanen.  There was no immediate word as to the severity of the injury, but it doesn't help the Penguins' cause at all.

Hopefully, there is a proper update before tomorrow's draft.
