The Vancouver Canucks haven't really been open to too many details, but defenseman Alex Edler is now out week-to-week with an upper-body injury after getting hurt on Saturday night against the Flames and already missing out on Monday's game against the Wild. The nature of the injury has not been disclosed and saying week-to-week only means that he will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis, to see if he is closer to returning and is definitely not a concrete answer.
Edler hasn't exactly had the best of seasons with the Canucks this year, scoring only 5 goals and 17 points in 55 games, which ranks him 344th overall in pool scoring and 66th among blueliners in pool scoring this season. Nevertheless, he puts up big minutes for Vancouver and his presence down this stretch towards the playoffs, will surely be missed.
In the draft, Stacey C. picked Edler with the 197th overall pick, down in the 9th round, as the run on blueliners was a bit crazy this year. In terms of defense scoring, Stacey's team ranks 18th this year, picking up only 67 points, through Tuesday night's action, well behind the top teams, which have eclipsed the 100-point barrier a while ago.
Stacey is only 13 points from a top 10 finish, but 52 points from a money finish and a long-term injury will definitely hurt his cause, moving forward.
