The Edmonton Oilers have made a swap on the Injured Reserve, as they took Ben Scrivens off the list and placed Viktor Fasth on the list on Wednesday morning. Scrivens had been dealing with a hamstring injury and took the entire week of his ineligibility to get ready to go again. Fasth is dealing with a knee injury and it hasn't been indicated as to how much time they expect him to miss in total, but being placed on the IR means that he'll miss at least a week of action.
It's good news for Brenda & Seward, who are on the verge of being the last team eliminated from the goalie survivor pool, if they don't get a win out of Scrivens this week. Stacey C. was eliminated from that contest in Week Four, so that doesn't really concern the 15th place team in the pool.
Speaking of placing players on the Injured Reserve, the Winnipeg Jets have announced that they have placed forward Mathieu Perreault on the list, as he suffered a lower-body injury on Monday night. There has been no official indication of how long the scoring forward will be out, but we can now confirm that he will be out for at least a week with his injury and it comes with the possibility of more time off.
Bad news for Wyllie, who could use the skater games to help him get out of the basement. Wyllie currently stands 1 point out of 22nd place, but doesn't have the tie-breaker in his favour, being the team with the least amount of goals scored this season, with 99.
Six games in the NHL tonight and it looks like it won't be as great of night for the keepers in the pool, as we may like.
Dustin Tokarski is the only pool goalie of the two starters in the Montreal/Ottawa game, as the main Senators goalies are both injured and Andrew Hammond is expected to get his first NHL start. Dale C. gets a start from his Waiver Draft pick-up, which is good news for him.
The Chicago/Detroit game is a little bit better, as Corey Crawford goes against Jimmy Howard, meaning that Dale C. has both of his goalies going tonight, while Dale B. has his goalie starting in the Red Wings net.
Minnesota visits Calgary and the home side will definitely be putting Jonas Hiller in net, but it is either/or for Leo. The Wild are likely going to continue with the hot hand, Devan Dubnyk, who has been working miracles for Brian in the second half of the season already.
The Kings take on the Avalanche tonight and it should be the number one's going for both teams. Los Angeles should be sending Jonathan Quick to the net, much to the delight of Grant S., while Benson will see his keeper, Semyon Varlamov in the Avalanche net.
In Edmonton, the Oilers welcome the Bruins and it sounds like Brenda & Seward will get a good opportunity tonight to get their win, as Ben Scrivens returns to the Oilers net and he'll face rookie Malcolm Subban, who will make his first NHL start. Subban has been playing well in the AHL, so it won't exactly be a walk in the park for Edmonton.
Finally, in Anaheim, the Lightning visit the Ducks and in the home net, the recently dropped John Gibson will make his third straight start. For the visitors, it is expected that Ben Bishop will get the call, even though his play has somewhat dropped off of late, but everyone has their dry spells, right? Scott should be getting a start, as the Lightning look to keep pace with the Habs.
At the time of hitting the publish button, there were still a few question marks, so these are subject to change, leading up to game time.
