Not much in the way of injuries on Wednesday night, so how about a return? The Pittsburgh Penguins welcomed Blake Comeau back into their fold for their game against the Red Wings and he paid off right away, picking up a goal and an assist in the 1st period, helping pave the way to a 4-1 win. Comeau had been out since Christmas with a wrist injury, so nearly two months on the shelf.
It was only the seventh game registered on Allan's pool team for Comeau, but he has 4 goals and 2 assists since the the Week Nine Waiver Draft, so the scoring rate is definitely there, just not the games played. The race out from under Olli might be heating up again, as Allan now trails Ryan by 2 points in the standings, but now has more projected games for the rest of the week.
Nine games in the NHL on Thursday night, so it's a good night for goalie points, in theory. Eighteen starting goalies, so we'll be seeing some minutes and points from the crease tonight.
We'll start with the survivor pool, but this won't take long. Both teams have their win for the week, but Kristy & Don will be able to pile on, as Pekka Rinne is expected to take on Ondrej Pavelec (Stacey M.) in the game between the Predators and the Jets.
There are a number of non-pool goalies going tonight, mostly because teams in the pool that were looking for goaltending at the Waiver Drafts, didn't want to take a chance on these ones. How about John Gibson in Anaheim? He's taking on Cam Ward (Troy) and the Hurricanes tonight. Thomas Greiss is in net for the Penguins tonight, taking on Robin Lehner and the Senators and only Ryan gets minutes out of this game.
There are some goalies that are newly-activated from the last Waiver Draft in net for their respective NHL team. Dustin Tokarski will get his first start for Dale C. tonight, as he gets the Habs net against the Oilers and Viktor Fasth (Stacey C.). Cam Talbot gets another start for the Rangers tonight, giving Brian another start, while he takes on Semyon Varlamov (Benson) and the Avalanche.
Three teams in the current battle for 3rd place and trying to catch up to 2nd, Wes doesn't have a goalie going, Clayton has Brian Elliott going for the Blues against the Lightning, while Cam doesn't have a goalie going either, according to the early projections. 2nd place, Grant S., he does have Jonathan Quick and the Kings taking on the Flames tonight.
