It was believed that Marc-Edouard Vlasic was dealing with an illness or something related, when he came out of the lineup last week, which wouldn't have necessarily made anyone look that way too carefully, but as it turns out, the Sharks placed the veteran defenseman on the Injured Reserve on Sunday, retroactively, to open up a spot on their roster, as they obviously can assert that they won't have him for the next few days.
It looks like Vlasic won't be able to be eligible to return until the weekend, which will put a number of games in jeopardy for him, but if it is minor, that's as bad as it's going to get. Vlasic missed Monday night's game against Calgary and will be out for Wednesday's game, home to the Capitals and likely Friday's game against the Coyotes.
It certainly isn't something that should get Benson too uppity about losing time, but missing out on a guy that has picked up 17 points in 52 games thus far from his blueline, yeah, it might sting a little bit.
Benson goes into Tuesday night down 21 points from the top 10 and didn't get off to the best of starts on Monday night.
