It doesn't sound like the Anaheim Ducks are going to take any chances with the upper-body injury that their number one goalie, Frederik Andersen, suffered on the weekend, as they have placed him on the Injured Reserve with his upper-body injury and they'll assess his status on the weekend.
Andersen was hit in the head by the net, as it was knocked over by a teammate in play against the Lightning on Sunday afternoon. He left the game in the 3rd period, not to return and has since been labeled as out for the week. There was some thought that he might be okay to continue on right away, but the team, acting in the best interest of the player, has now held him back and kept him out.
Andersen has been quite good this season, taking the number one job in Anaheim by storm. The 25-year old Dane is among the 4-way tie for the overall pool scoring lead, dropping the tie-breakers to be in 2nd, officially. Andersen has 29 wins, 3 shutouts and 3 assists this season, all in 44 appearances.
The Ducks netminder is part of the backbone of the pool leading team, belonging to Kristy & Don, but after Monday night, their lead was still 70 points, so there is limited concern on their part. Even if Andersen was to miss the remainder of the regular season, the lead they built up in the first segment of the season would be hard-pressed to be undone in only nine weeks worth of action.
