Ranking 21st among potential unrestricted free agents this Summer, defenseman Alex Goligoski was likely going to be a candidate for much wooing by NHL clubs, as the Dallas Stars were not likely to re-sign the defender, under their current financial conditions.

For the right to negotiate early and exclusively, the Arizona Coyotes have parted with a 5th round pick.

The potential of adding a veteran defenseman like Goligoski is significant to a burgeoning Coyotes team.  They will be able to offer him a substantial pay raise, if necessary, and the chance to play some top end minutes.
