It was only a matter of time, but as expected, Karl Alzner has signed his entry-level deal with the Washington Capitals on Thursday. If you're familiar with the young defenseman, he isn't a big offensive talent, but he'll be a defense stalwart on the blueline for the Capitals. He'll likely be the guy holding down the fort while players like Mike Green, Tom Poti and Alexander Ovechkin play the point with reckless abandon. As a player to hold down the fort like that, he'll likely pick up his fair share of assists with those kind of scoring talents on the ice. Something to consider when it comes to pool-time.
Alzner signed a 3-year deal, although his rookie salary & bonuses were not announced, although it's fairly safe to say he'll be on the higher-end of the scale, as a first-round pick.
