The Rangers were a popular choice to make through to the second round, but weren't necessarily the favourite to move on from there. The only Ranger to really make an impact in the series was Jaromir Jagr (Box 14), who managed 8 points in the series and 16 points in the playoffs. Henrik Lundqvist (Box 24) wasn't helped too often when it came to defending against the fast-paced Penguins and only managed to win once, but lucky for his seven pool owners, it was a shutout for 4 points.
The Penguins were able to shut down some of the Rangers' key players in order to finish the series so quickly. Brendan Shanahan (Box 16) only managed to pick up a single point in the series, while Chris Drury (Box 15) only snagged three points for the pool.
In total, there was 100 selections eliminated from this series loss for the Rangers, but they were beaten by a favoured Penguin team, who had 148 selections.
The early game on Sunday was an overtime thriller, which had the bonus point go to Marian Hossa (Box 15), along with his other goal, which gave him a 3-point night. Hossa was the top player for the Penguins in the pool. Sidney Crosby (Box 13) finished the game with 2 assists, while Marc-Andre Fleury (Box 24) picked up his 8th win of the playoffs, as he continues to lead the pool scoring with 20 points through two rounds.
Evgeni Malkin (Box 14) also starred for the Penguins in the series. He led all skaters for the Penguins in points against the Rangers with 9.
Friday night will see the Penguins host the Flyers to start the Conference Finals.
