Bruins Re-Sign Aaron Ward

The Bruins started to sew up some of the holes that they have left behind after the season had ended for them. Defenseman Aaron Ward was re-signed by the Bruins to a multi-year deal on Tuesday, which now gives them four of their top six defensemen returning from last season. It also gives the team 19 of the maximum 23 active players they need to start next season, which is mighty impressive, because we haven't even hit the free agent frenzy or the draft yet.

Ward finished the season playing 65 games and registering 13 points during the season. He was a Box 22 fixture on the Sherpa's selection sheet for the regular season and again in the playoffs. He should be expected to be there again next season, unless the Bruins bust out a big name blue chip prospect that makes the jump right away. Then we'll talk.

There was no length or salary amount given for Ward's new deal, but the team should still have enough to maneuvre, as they had only $44.5 million under the cap already, which gives them plenty of room, even if Ward re-signed near his $2.75 million he earned last season.
