As if the challenge of taking on the Eastern Conference's team of destiny isn't enough, the Philadelphia Flyers are going to have to do it without one of their top defenders. The Flyers will be without Kimmo Timonen (Box 20) for the remainder of the playoffs with a blood clot in his ankle. Timonen blocked a shot in the Montreal series with his ankle and that is where the team's doctors figured it happened.
Timonen has six assists in these playoffs, which has him near the top of his box in points, but that's where it will likely stop. Falling one point short of the top. His injury is bad news, not only for the Flyers, but for the three teams that took him in the pool. He was turning out to be one of the sleeper players in his box and would have been clutch to keep around through this series.
But without Timonen in the line-up, the Flyers will likely have to figure in youngster, Ryan Parent (non-pool). Having lost a big defenseman like Timonen will likely do wonders for their opponents from Pittsburgh.
Game 1 goes tonight on CBC at 5:30pm.
