The Florida Panthers began their off-season planning with the signing of two players on Monday. Both Wade Belak and Kamil Kreps signed back on with the club to two-year deals. Belak's contract is worth $1.3 million over the duration of the deal, while Kreps' deal did not have a monetary value assigned to it.
Belak came over from Toronto at the trade deadline and provided some much needed grit at the back end for the Panthers, which obviously struck a chord with management, in order to keep him around.
Kreps is finally emerging as a full-time player after a few years of question marks. Kreps finished the season with 25 points (8G, 17A) in 76 games for the Panthers. He'll be added to the full-time roster for next season.
Florida now has 18 of their regular players signed on for next season, which should alleviate some stress for GM Jacques Martins and assembling his new line-up. The Panthers are also still well underneath the cap ceiling, so they could very well be players come July 1st. Names floating on the rumour mill for the Panthers include Brendan Morrison and Brian Rolston.
