This was the trade that had us all waiting in anxious anticipation all summer long and now it's finally happened. Dany Heatley has moved out of Ottawa, as per his wishes, and he has moved to a team that was on his list from the very beginning.

The Sharks acquired a bonafide goal scorer to go with their A-level playmaker, Joe Thornton. The combination has a great potential to do big things in the coming season and the temptation to have either one (or both) on your fantasy team should be really high.

The Senators, on the other hand, did a pretty good job picking up two wingers that have shown flashes of talent, including Jonathan Cheechoo, who has a Rocket Richard trophy to his name. Milan Michalek shouldn't be a slouch either, as he's had some pretty good seasons already in San Jose.

Salary CapEveryone knew that any deal that involved Heatley would have to be a pretty straight swap when it comes to cap hits. This deal was pretty much just that. The Senators received an extra player for just a little less than Heatley, bringing their numbers up to 21 players at $53.3 million, while the Sharks are in a bit more cap trouble, having only 16 players signed on for $53.7 million. The Sharks are likely still going to make a move or two to get themselves sorted out for the end of the month and since the Heatley deal is done, they can now focus on making those moves.

I think this deal improves the Sharks scoring attack greatly and I think the numbers will improve for both Thornton and Heatley this year. The Sharks power play should have a little more bite to it as well. The Sens likely have added a couple more scoring options and where they fit is a little uncertain at the moment. Cheechoo or Michalek will likely fit somewhere on the top line with guys like Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson and/or Alex Kovalev. That should be an exciting prospect for the Sens.
