The Flyers made a big move today, waiving defenseman Randy Jones in hopes that he'll be taken by another team on Monday and his cap hit is removed.
Jones only played in 47 games for the Flyers in 2009, scoring 4 goals and adding 4 assists. That left him in pretty rough shape in the defenseman rankings, which doesn't look too good against some of his previous seasons. Jones missed a lot of time due to a hip injury, missing games from the start of the season through to December. It certainly wasn't an easy year.
Jones has a cap hit of $2.75 million in 2010 and the Flyers are in some cap danger this season. This is only the first step towards righting the ship, if they can find a team that will take the defenseman off their hands. For a good puck moving defenseman, who has a career-high of 31 points, he's shouldn't be a bad pick-up for anyone and I would expect him to get claimed.
Stay tuned...
