The Blues did a couple of transactions today, as they prepare for their trip to Sweden for their NHL Premiere scheduled games. First, they sent defenseman Jonas Jundland to the AHL and then in the afternoon, they announced the signing of Darryl Sydor to a 1-year deal. Sydor had been invited to camp by the Blues and was doing well to impress and that culminated into a new contract with the team.
The financial number was not disclosed with the news release of the signing, but when the Blues dropped Jundland, they saved over $800,000 against the cap. I am expecting to see Sydor's deal to be around the $1 million mark. The Blues are in good shape, when it comes to the salary cap figures. They should be dropping another player or two before heading off to Sweden and then likely dropping a player or two from their active roster when they are out there.
The Blues begin their season on October 2nd against the Red Wings.
When it comes to Sydor, he scored 3 goals and 12 assists in 73 games for the Penguins and Stars in 2009. With the Blues, I think he'll be getting some prime time play, so he'll likely better that number by a little bit. I have his numbers and stock increased with this roster move.
