In the earlier game on Friday night, the Detroit Red Wings narrowly escaped their own building with a 4-3 win in regulation time against the San Jose Sharks, which means they'll live to see another game, which goes on Sunday night, back at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.
The Red Wings jumped out to a 3-0 lead early on in the 1st period, but that wasn't going to be enough to keep the crowd at Joe Louis Arena from biting their nails, as the Sharks did get one back before the end of the opening frame, scored one in the 2nd period and then early in the 3rd, tied it up. The Red Wings did manage to put together one hell of a push in the last few minutes of the 3rd period, which gave them the winning goal and an extended life in this second round.
The big players for the Red Wings in the pool on Friday night were Nicklas Lidstrom, who had a pair of goals, Todd Bertuzzi who had a goal and an assist, Henrik Zetterberg had 2 assists and Jimmy Howard, who made 25 saves for the win.
For the Sharks, Ryane Clowe was a huge part of the 3-goal comeback, assisting on each of the Sharks goals in the game and Logan Couture finished with a goal and an assist.
The Red Wings still have a long ways to go and through hostile territory, no less. Game Five... Sunday night... book it!
