If you had a look at the numbers, you can easily see that the Red Wings really wanted this one from start to finish, as they dominated the shot totals for the first two periods of play. When the puck dropped on the 3rd period, it looked as though the Sharks looked at each other, realized they survived a pretty good push from their opponents and then decided that they would actually push back.
Only then did the Sharks sneak one behind Jimmy Howard to take a 1-0 lead, early in the 3rd period, and then set the home team back on their heels just a little bit. The Red Wings on their heels is not like any other team on their heels, they are not ones to make rash decisions and end up with mistakes, no they crank up the intensity and let their skill go to work. Two goal in less than two minutes after the midway point of the 3rd turned the tables quickly and the Wings sealed the deal with an empty-netter, winning the game 3-1 and sending this series to Game Seven, which will go Thursday night in San Jose.
Playing the Game Six hero for the Red Wings was Box 5 forward Valtteri Filppula, who scored the eventual winning goal and added an assist for a 3-point night. Howard only had to make 24 saves for the win and 2 points in the pool. That is what you needed to know about Game Six.
The injuries were pointed out in yesterday's preview, both Johan Franzen and Ryane Clowe were out of the line-up and there should be a preview of Game Seven on Thursday morning as well. What a series this has turned out to be.
