Not in practice today for the New Jersey Devils was forward Travis Zajac, who is nursing a lower-body injury, according to team management. The injury is thought to be minor and this could work out to be more of a maintenance day, but when you're talking about a specific injury, it should be good practice to post what you've got, since there becomes a chance that he doesn't suit up on Thursday night in Philadelphia. Zajac is considered day-to-day right now, but should be considered to be likely for opening night.
Do you think Allan is getting picked on for being the reigning champ? Even after dropping two players in the preseason waivers, he still has three players on the injury list, as of Tuesday morning. Zajac is his 7th round pick in the draft and having already dropped his 6th and 12th round picks, his team has to be feeling a bit thin at the moment.
The Columbus coaching staff has confirmed on Tuesday morning/afternoon, that forward Brandon Dubinsky is not expected to be in the line-up on Thursday night in Buffalo, as he is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The team also confirmed that Ryan Murray will not be ready to go either for the Jackets, as his knee injury has not sufficiently healed, nor has he really had enough practice on his healed injury yet either. Murray was placed on the IR earlier in the week, but is eligible to come off at any time.
Dubinsky belongs to Dale B. and will cost him at least one game on the shelf now, while Murray, now that he is on the IR, has his projected games taken away from him for the time being. Ryan now drops to a tie for 14th in projected games for Week One with 30 games on the docket.
There was an update given to Maple Leafs' defenseman Cody Franson, as he is not expected to be in the line-up on Wednesday night, when the team opens up against the Montreal Canadiens. The update on his bruised knee is that he is aiming for Saturday's game, home to the Penguins. Franson has been out since the end of September, after a nasty fall against the boards that gave the brunt of the impact to his knee. He sounds like he's close, so there shouldn't be a big panic here yet.
Not the start that Cam wanted to see in his first year in the draft. His defensemen are pretty decent and that includes Franson being healthy. If all goes well, Cam should have a decent blueline in the scoring department.
The injury situation for Calgary's top pick in this past Summer's draft, Sam Bennett, is progressively getting worse and worse, as the days go on. The injury is now believed to be a serious shoulder injury, which may or may not require surgery and either way, it sounds like he will be on the shelf indefinitely. The Flames have yet to announce this formally, but this is what some sources are leaning towards. A full update is due soon.
This sounds like a pretty good reason for Wyllie to think about dropping the number four pick overall in the Entry Draft, his 14th round pick, the 316th pick overall in the hockey pool draft. Even if Bennett does get healthy, he will then be sent to Juniors, in all likelihood.
An updated list of injuries can be found here.
