It hasn't been the rosiest of starts for "Johnny Hockey" in Calgary, as John Gaudreau had yet to register a point in five games with the Flames this season. The former Hobey Baker winner has some big expectations put upon him in his rookie season, but has yet to perform. On Friday night against the Blue Jackets, he took to the press box for an educational visit and there are some rumblings that he may find his way down to the AHL for some seasoning.
Gaudreau was a shot in the dark for Wilton this season, taking him in the 14th round. It wasn't necessarily the riskiest of picks, but it is now turning out to be a fruitless pick at the moment, not picking up any points early on.
It was a return to the line-up for Edmonton's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Friday night, as the Oilers took on the Canucks. The return didn't help the offense any in Edmonton, however, as the Oilers were shut out by Ryan Miller. A return is a return, however, which has more potential for points than staying on the injury list.
The return is good news for Mike, who hasn't struggled in the games played department for his skaters in Week Two, tied for 2nd in the category with 26 games already collected through the week days. However, he still goes into Saturday night in 16th place, 29 points out of 1st.
There was some talk that Joffrey Lupul may miss some time with a lower-body injury, but that wasn't the case for the Maple Leafs, as he did dress on Friday against the Red Wings. Also, as expected, Jake Gardiner was back in the line-up from being a healthy scratch, as Stephane Robidas was sent up to the press box for a game. The Leafs did not see any improvement with the bodies in the line-up, dropping a 4-1 decision to Detroit.
Lupul had nothing in the game and was a -2, while Gardiner was a -1 with no points, so there was no impact, except in the skater games played for Mike and Brenda, respectively. Mike we know all about already, while Brenda hasn't seen a lot of success, down in 21st spot, already 33 points back of 1st place with only 26 points to her name.
