Last night, Niklas Backstrom was the odd-man out for the Minnesota Wild, the goalie up in the press box, as Devan Dubnyk got the start, later pulled for Darcy Kuemper, in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Red Wings. The Wild are now carrying a trio of healthy goalies and the All-Star break may be awfully telling, how the Wild move forward, especially after acquiring the likes of Dubnyk to help solve some goaltending woes.
Backstrom belongs to Brian this season, who hasn't seen a great deal of help from his goalies this year, only having 11 wins in the bank, 5 of those wins from Backstrom. All of his goaltending is in Minnesota, as he picked up Dubnyk at the Waiver Draft, so he'll go as well as the Wild go now.
It was a return to the press box for Ottawa defenseman, Patrick Wiercioch, who obviously hasn't found his way into the regular roster for the Senators, still playing an inconsistent game for his coach's liking. In 26 appearances this season, Wiercioch has only found 1 goal and 4 points on the scoresheet, which isn't likely enough.
Dale C. is going to have some tough decisions to make at the Week Eighteen Waiver Draft and Wiercioch has to be on the fence, as to whether or not he goes as one of the worst players on his team or stays, because there are bigger fish to fry. Not a happy situation there, at the moment.
