Pretty Big Rookie Roster for San Jose

It looks like the San Jose Sharks are going to throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at this rookie tournament in Penticton, BC this weekend. Their rookie camp is packed to the brim with young players and with the way the team is stacking up in some of those key positions, they are giving a good opportunity to even make the team, even if it is the long way around to do so.

The Sharks will need a 4th line, a 13th forward and a 7th defenseman through this training camp and there might be a name or two on their rookie roster that might be able to fill those positions.

With Benn Ferriero already seeing time with the Sharks in 2010, I would have to think he's a guy that is in the mix going forward.  I have a few more of these forwards on my master list, but none of them actually ring a bell to remind me of their headlining abilities, which suggests to me that this could be a thin batch of guys going to this tournament.  On defense, Nick Petrecki is another one that is recognizable, but he has toiled around the Sharks system for quite a while now and I'm wondering if he's ever going to make it.  In goal, Tyson Sexsmith is another one that has been around for a while in the Sharks organization, but is now behind the 8-ball again with both Antti Niemi and Antero Niittymaki being signed on in the off-season.

I can't say I'm expecting too much from this side in the tournament next week, but it should be a good experience for all of them at the very least.  I would think with the number of guys going to camp (and likely to the tournament), they fully intend on rolling two sets of teams or a combination thereof, just for ice-time and experience.
