We'll start with a signing out of Anaheim tonight... the Ducks have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Paul Mara to a 1-year deal, reportedly worth $750,000. Mara spent 2010 with the Montreal Canadiens, where he played 43 games, registering only 8 assists with the club. That was good for only 188th among defensemen and his scoring rate was sub-par as well for more drafting purposes.
The signing couldn't have come at a better time, as the Ducks have learned that they are going to be without Toni Lydman for an indefinite period of time, as he is suffering from an acute case of double-vision. The Ducks are going to be very cautious with his situation and they will not rush him back into action without going through the right channels and making sure that he is 100%. This would put a damper on the start of his season and his fantasy value as well.
