The Hurricanes are going to be the team that takes its chances with unrestricted free agent forward Patrick O'Sullivan, signing him to a 1-year, two-way deal worth $600,000, which was finalized on Friday, the start of training camp. O'Sullivan was made into an unrestricted free agent when the Phoenix Coyotes officially bought out his contract, after acquiring him from Edmonton in a trade/buyout agreement.
O'Sullivan scored 11 goals and 23 assists in 73 games with the Oilers, which was good enough to be 179th among forwards in pool scoring. A change of scenery and a shallow pool for talent might be able to give O'Sullivan the minutes he needs to revitalize his career and make himself into a bargain pick for the pools. I would imagine that he has a bit of incentive to get his career back on track and Carolina could be a good place to do that.
