The depth of the Red Wings will receive a bit of a challenge with Kris Draper now going on the shelf with an apparent groin strain. Draper suffered the injury in scrimmages on Saturday, but it is still unknown how severe the injury is. The injury will likely cause him to miss at least a few days of camp, if not a week, with the certain possibility of more.
Draper has had some groin issues in the past, but nothing that anyone would certainly call serious problems. He missed a few playoff games in the Spring due to a groin problem, but that was the most recent time lost to the injury.
Draper is currently in a battle for some bottom six playing time on the team, more likely the fourth line. In 2010, he played in 81 games and picked up 22 points for the Red Wings, which puts him out of range for most pools. This news will likely impact a player like Justin Abdelkader, who might have an easier shot for some playing time and work his way into some better minutes.
