The Ottawa Senators will be without Mike Hoffman for the next two games, starting on Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils, for his suspension handed out to him on Friday.
Hoffman was given the ban for his cross-check to the head of Sharks forward Logan Couture, as the video embedded below has laid out for us, explaining that the Sens forward should have had much better control of his stick, despite the circumstances of the play.
The 27-year old forward has been quite good for the Senators this season, picking up 9 goals and 21 points in 28 games this season, not to mention rounding out his game for the hockey pool with 27 PIM as well. He is currently ranked 80th overall in scoring, which would make him a solid 4th round pick, if we were to redo the draft today.
The Senators play both Saturday and Sunday, both games that will be missed by Hoffman, which now drops Derek B.'s projected games for the rest of the week down to 11. Derek's team is starting Saturday's action in 18th, now 30 points out of the money. To his team's credit, they have moved up to 3rd in the PIM pool, but are still 47 minutes back.
