There were a couple of notes from the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night... first, the Flyers knew going into the game against the San Jose Sharks, they would be without defenseman Radko Gudas, as he is dealing with an upper-body injury and he is currently listed as day-to-day. There was no indication of when and where he suffered the injury, but he wasn't good to go. And then secondly, the coach opted to scratch rookie forward Travis Konecny for this game, giving the kid a night off up in the press box. The Flyers coaching staff has not been afraid to scratch some of their younger talent, if they feel they have been slipping, and that was likely the case here. The Flyers will open the 2017 calendar year in Anaheim and Gudas' availability is still up in the air, but I would expect Konecny to be back.
Gudas belongs to Scott and Konecny was a Waiver Draft pick-up for Clayton, one of these teams is far more relevant than the other in the standings, but that team is missing the defenseman. The loss of Gudas to Scott's team isn't a huge deal, but no one wants to miss games. Scott will open Saturday's action in 5th place, 5 points out of the money.
