If there was a book of how to draw the ire of the hockey community, there would be a solid chapter on the hit that Dallas Stars forward Cody Eakin laid on New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, as the blow on Thursday night was a doozie. It certainly drew the attention of the Department of Player Safety, as they came down with a 4-game suspension on the gritty forward.
The suspension will start to take effect on Saturday afternoon, when the Stars take on the Flyers at home and Eakin won't be eligible to return until December 29th, when the Stars host the Avalanche.
Eakin hasn't exactly been a hockey pool darling this season, registering only 1 assist in 14 contests this year, thanks to a preseason knee injury, which kept him out for a good chunk of the early season. Thanks to the hit, however, his penalty minutes jumped up from 2 to 17.
For Wes, however, his team's scoring woes, are in part, due to missing Eakin early on, and even with an extra major penalty and game misconduct, his team is still way ahead in the Lady Byng race, having only accumulated a total of 101 minutes of penalties, still 10 minutes better than Mike's team at the bottom. It has been another hard luck season for Wes, thus far, and this suspension certainly won't help any causes.
