The big news on Friday was that the Chicago Blackhawks had signed Brent Sopel to a 1-year deal. Sopel spent last season with the Kings and Canucks and spent training camp in Detroit with the Red Wings, before finally getting the deal done in Chicago.| Martin Havlat | Robert Lang | Tuomo Ruutu |

To make room for Sopel, Cam Barker (Box 11) will be shipped down to the minors as will Karel Pilar, who will have to clear waivers again before making it down. It's still unknown how much Sopel's contract is worth, but it wasn't like the Blackhawks were struggling with their numbers anyways.
