With still a cut or two left to do in the Flames camp, GM Darryl Sutter went out and signed mucking forward, Mark Smith. Smith, tried out for a couple teams in the preseason, but has now got himself a two-way deal in Calgary for the time being. Smith isn't necessarily a big fantasy player, but he could provide some good mucking minutes to help the team generate some momentum late in games. He'll see a couple practices before the team opens the season, Thursday against Philly.
Curtis McElhinney and Brent Krahn (Box 12) are still battling for the back-up job behind Miikka Kiprusoff (Ryan).
