Only 2 points separate 1st to 3rd in the standings, but it's already 7 points separating 3rd and 4th, which is by no means insurrmountable. A couple injuries or a week or two of some hot goaltending can tighten that race right back up.
The big match-up on Friday night to close the gap would be the Red Wings hosting the Blackhawks (5:30pm MT). With Jeff and John B. each having players in this game and Clayton not having any, this is the perfect time for 4th and 5th to close in on 3rd. John B. leads the way in this game having both Dominik Hasek and Daniel Cleary, so a win would at least give John 2 points. Jeff has Blackhawks defenseman, Duncan Keith, which doesn't exactly spell 'close the gap,' but at least it's someone.
The leading candidate for Player of the Week so far is Jason Spezza (Chris). He's already amassed 6 points through the week and the Senators will be playing against the Rangers in Madison Square Gardens on Saturday to finish up the week. There's a number of players with 4 points going into the weekend, so Spezza is only the favourite by a small margin going in.
