Now, technically, these guys have only swapped teams through the waiver wire and they haven't been signed or re-signed or anything like that. In order to demote some players on one-way deals, they have to cross through the 24-hour period of being on the waiver wire before they can officially be in the minors.
The New Jersey Devils picked up defenseman, Sheldon Brookbank from the wire. Brookbank was being sent to Syracuse from Columbus before being picked up. The Devils were still going to make a cut or two from their roster today, I believe, before picking him up, so there is still going to be a shave or two from that active roster, before seeing where Brookbank ends up. Brookbank played in 3 games last season only recording 1 assist. Not really a big pool mention here.
The Canucks picked up a defenseman as well this afternoon. Being sent to Manchester from LA was Mike Weaver. Weaver, 29, played in 39 games last season and had 9 points. With so much youth in the Canucks' system on the blueline, it is rather surprising that Weaver was a guy that the team coveted.
Finally, in a less than surprising move, the Atlanta Thrashers re-acquired Karel Pilar from the Blackhawks, as Chicago couldn't find any room for the defenseman and put him back on the wire. Exactly where they got him from.
