The Detroit Red Wings announced on Thursday morning that they are expecting to be without forward Dan Cleary for their weekend games against the Ducks and Flyers, Friday and Sunday, respectively. Cleary has been dealing with a cyst in his knee, which occasionally needs draining, and Cleary will undergo a procedure to try and help the pain that comes along with this cyst, without actually having to operate on it and keep him out longer. This should only be a short absence for a couple games.
Cleary was picked up in the second waiver draft by the duo of Kristy and Don, picking up an assist in his first two games this week, but they won't be able to pick up anything else from him this week. The duo are having a good week, picking up 11 points through Wednesday night's action.
The San Jose Sharks were without one of their pillars for their game against the Flames on Wednesday night, as Dan Boyle was out with a bout of the flu. Boyle was a late scratch for the game, but it's that time of year, so this doesn't really come as much of a surprise. Boyle was certainly missed, as the Sharks dropped the decision to the Flames, 4-3.
Boyle belongs to Peter H. in the pool this season and there wasn't a great deal of impact to the overall scope of the pool with the defenseman being out, as Peter sits in 19th spot, but the weekly scoring race may have been affected, since Peter is in the running for the Mover and Shaker, 2nd in the week with 13 points, only 2 points behind the weekly leader.
