Injured Ruutu Off the Market

There was no guarantee that Carolina Hurricanes forward Tuomo Ruutu was actually going to be dealt at the deadline, pending a new contract before the 27th of February, but with an upper-body injury, which will keep him out for the next three weeks, there is very little hope that the Hurricanes could get any significant return in a deal for the agitating forward.

On Tuesday, the team announced that the injury that he had suffered on the weekend was a little bit more significant after his MRI, but the nature of the injury was not necessarily disclosed to the public.  Of course, if a team still came calling for his services, they would be alerted what kind of injury he suffered.

Ruutu has had a pretty good season in Carolina, despite the team's lack of success in the standings, as the Finn has 17 goals and 13 assists in 57 games, but with the possibility of missing around 10-to-12 games this season, those numbers will look a little less fantastic overall.  He could still come back and hit the 20-goal mark, which is impressive, nonetheless, but he would have made a very interesting trading pawn for a contending team.

ImplicationsIt's been a rough start to the week for Brenda F., who started the week in 10th, but only after a couple of evenings of play, her team has only found 1 point and has now dropped down to 11th spot, now trailing Allan S. by 5 points for the top 10 spot.  The injury to Ruutu is making a bad start to the week even worse, so the rest of her team will have to pick up some of the slack.
