Afternoon Player Notes in the Draft (Oct 8)

As expected, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Olli Maatta from the AHL on Thursday morning, as they have done all the proper math to maximize some Long Term Injured Reserve benefits, with Pascal Dupuis' injury.  At the end of the day, this demotion/promotion is just a bookkeeping necessity and has no bearing on Maatta's play.

This has now restored Dale C.'s projected games to be played this week and he is back in business with his actual numbers on the standings page.

Word dropped fairly early in the morning from Bruins camp, that defenseman Zdeno Chara will not be dressing in Boston's season opener, at home to Winnipeg on Thursday night.  Chara has been dealing with an upper-body injury since the first game of the preseason and hasn't had a great deal of practice time, although he has returned to the ice in the last week.  He should only be day-to-day from here on in, but he won't start right away.

Brenda & Seward won't get any relief in their projected games to be played this week quite yet, as Chara will remain on the Injured Reserve for right now.  Being on the IR means that he counts for a zero in that column, which is a little rough early on, since they didn't register a point in night number one's action.
