The Colorado Avalanche are now playing with eight healthy defensemen after Ryan Wilson was declared healthy to play again on Wednesday night. So, with eight healthy blueliners, two of them were singled out to sit versus the Ducks and those two were Kyle Quincey and Brett Clark. Both Quincey and Clark haven't exactly lit it up for the Avalanche of late, but who really has? Quincey has 2 assists and is a +2 in his last five games, which kind of makes you scratch your head as to why he was scratched. Clark has 1 assist and is a -1 in his last five games, so that's a little bit more reasonable.
Apparently, the Avs coaching staff saw enough in Wilson, Liles, Salei, Foote, Cumisky and Hannan to think it was enough for the Ducks. Well, the 5-2 scoreline against begs to differ.
The biggest concern here at the moment has to be for the Playoff Pool. Both defensemen who were scratched are on the Playoff Pool sheet and may get some consideration, if the Avalanche make it and who they draw up against in the first round. It does sound like everyone should give these guys a miss this year, but you would have to read this post to get the good bit of advice tucked within it.
