With the St. Louis Blues eliminated from the playoff picture in the Western Conference, I suppose it would be considered okay to announce one's retirement the day after. It's true, Keith Tkachuk announced that he will be retiring at the end of the season, which happens to be at the end of the week, finishing a career of 18 NHL seasons.
Tkachuk should be awfully proud of his career stat line, which sees 1,200 NHL games played (if he doesn't play another game this season), 538 goals and 525 assists for 1,063 points, plus 2,219 career penalty minutes. Those are some awfully big numbers for the 38-year old winger. He also has two 50-goal seasons to his name, both with the Winnipeg/Phoenix organization, but hadn't registered a 100-point season in his career, although he came close with 98 points in 1995-'96 season.
In 2010, Tkachuk currently sits with 30 points in 66 games for the Blues, which ranks him 272nd in pool scoring this season. That's an awfully low total, even with his injury-plagued season, so I suppose in terms of production, you would think now would be a good time to go.
