A bout of the flu kept veteran Sabres defenseman, Craig Rivet, out of the line-up Tuesday night versus the Rangers. Rivet has had somewhat of an underwhelming season in Buffalo, with the emergence of some new and fresh legs to the blueline, but it will be his veteran savvy that should help the team, as they venture into the playoffs this year. Rivet is a part of the Playoff Pool page and might be a sneaky selection, especially if you don't have the Sabres going very far in the tournament.
Talking about playoff-bound players, it looks like Troy Brouwer was a healthy scratch for the Blackhawks on Tuesday, as the team took on the Stars in Dallas. With the Blackhawks firm grasp on a playoff spot, playing against a weaker team llike the Stars, the coachind staff could afford to insert a role player like Adam Burish and rest Brouwer for a game. Brouwer has been rewarded for his good season with the Box 7 position for the Hawks on the Playoff Pool sheet, hence his mention on the blog.
There appears to be a bit of a rotation going on in New Jersey, as Paul Martin was included back in the line-up on Tuesday night and he was taking the spot of Mike Mottau's, who looks to have gotten his bit of rest for the week. Mottau is another player that has earned himself a Playoff Pool spot for the Spring, after showing a mild improvement in his numbers this season... and the lack of blueline depth there for New Jersey.
The Penguins were without a pair of stars on Tuesday night, as they played against the Washington Capitals. Both Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz were not in the line-up, both for different reasons. Malkin was sidelined with an illness and is considered day-to-day with the bug, while Kunitz suffered an undisclosed injury on Saturday night against Atlanta and was not able to go on Tuesday. He is also considered out day-to-day. Both players will factor in mightily for the Playoff Pool, so it's up to you whether or not you take this into consideration or not.
