The word sounds rather official from Ottawa that Alex Kovalev and his season is done. The word is Saturday morning that Kovalev has suffered a torn ACL and will undergo surgery in the next two weeks to repair the damage and it automatically sets him down indefinitely, which includes the playoffs.
Kovalev was brought into the Ottawa system to be a scoring forward for the team, trying to help them put a few more pucks in the net. Well, he did that in a way, but its arguably well short of expectations. Kovalev will finish the season as the team's 4th leading scorer, with 18 goals and 31 assists for 49 points this year, which ranks him 126th in pool scoring this season, which is way down from last season's 64th place finish. The Senators are in the playoffs and in good shape, so Kovalev's numbers are not crucial to many arguments, but they would probably have a better shot at the Northeast Division title if Kovalev scored at the same rate as he did in 2009.
Well, I hope you aren't planning to have Kovalev on your Playoff Pool team. That would be a significant loss to your team right off the hop. That's about the only place that Kovalev will make a difference here in the Spring, so just don't pick him or else you might be made an example of in the blog later on.
