The Ducks are now currently doing business without Jonas Hiller, their number one goalie, due to a bout of back spasms and some hip discomfort. Hiller was hurt in warm-up fro Monday night's game and has not been able to start since. In his stead, it's been Curtis McElhinney, the former Flames goaltender, taking the starts until Hiller is ready to go again.
Hiller has a pretty good chance of dressing this weekend, which is good news for most poolies who are in need of those extra points down the stretch. Of course, it is just considered "a chance," so don't be too surprised if he doesn't make any starts.
Of course, Hiller is part of the money battle in the Draft, right in the thick of the good fight too. Dale B. is right in the middle of the dogfight for 2nd place in the Draft, whom he is currently battling with Larry and Wayne for that good money spot. Dale currently sits in 3rd spot after Wednesday night's action, 2 points up on Wayne in 3rd and only 4 points behind Larry for 2nd. Losing one of your goalies is pretty harsh at this time, but Dale can still rely on Evgeni Nabokov of the Sharks to pull a few more goalie points while Hiller is away.
The Ducks are drawing close to playoff elimination and not having Hiller won't help down the stretch. Of course, McElhinney did draw up a win over the Avalanche on Wednesday night, so it isn't all bad. I'm thinking that even if the Ducks make it, no one is really going to think that they will go far enough to warrant picking Hiller for their pool team.
