The Pittsburgh Penguins announced a key signing on Tuesday morning, as their back-up goaltender, Brent Johnson, will remain with the team for two more seasons, through the 2011/'12 season. Johnson signed a 2-year, $1.2 million deal, which will give him a cap hit of $600,000 per season, which is a slight raise on the deal that he signed in last summer.
Johnson appeared in 23 games for the Penguins in 2010, picking up a record of 10-6-1. Johnson also registered an assist during the year, which lifted his pool points total to 21, ranking him 394th among all players, 44th among all goaltenders.
The Penguins 2011 cap number continues to look very promising heading into the summer. They currently sit with 15 players signed on for next season at an approximate annual cap hit of $45.1 million. That is very reasonable, especially if the salary cap ceiling is to go up to the projected $57.7 million, which was talked about on Hockey Night In Canada.
