News from Bob McKenzie at TSN this morning, the Ottawa Senators have placed Jonathan Cheechoo on re-entry waivers this morning, likely in order to have him on the team's active roster for this playoff series. Of course, I am not expecting him to be back in the line-up at any point, but he'll be around just as a body, just in case.
The Ottawa Senators' AHL affiliate in Binghamton did not qualify for the playoffs this year, which means Cheechoo is better served as a replacement for an injured player, rather than enjoying his summer.
Since Cheechoo has been placed on re-entry waivers, he could be claimed for half of his potential cap cost in 2011, which is $1.5 million, while the Senators would be on the hook for the other half. I don't forsee anyone picking him up, as his numbers were even struggling in the AHL.
