Looking at the Draft standings this morning, you have to really rub your eyes and see if this is really true, but Wayne absolutely took Tuesday by the scruff of its neck and dragged it around until it bled points. Wayne picked up 16 points on the evening, raising his total up to 20 points on the week and he now owns a 10-point lead on Dale B., who currently sits in 3rd place.
Wayne picked up wins from both of his goaltenders last night, Ryan Miller and Cam Ward, so that was a smooth 4 points right there. Nicklas Backstrom of the Capitals had another 3-point night and should be leading the pool this week with his 6 points already. Dustin Brown, Drew Stafford and Alex Edler also picked up a pair of points each on the night, so this is just excellent timing from his team, all around.
In 3rd spot, Dale B. managed to pick up 6 points, thanks to Evgeni Nabokov and Daniel Sedin, who each picked up a pair of points in their respective games. That was enough to help leapfrog over Larry and put 3 points between the two of them going into Wednesday's action.
Larry only managed to pick up a couple of points on Tuesday, which wasn't enough to stay in the money. Alex Semin picked up his 2nd point of the week and Drew Doughty picked up one point in the dead of the night for the Kings in their comeback shootout victory.
I'm expecting to see bigger things from Dale and Larry in the next couple days. I want to see this come down to the wire.
It really seems to me that Leon's team is just tempting fate more often than not, sitting on its perch in 1st place, looking down at the race for 2nd and 3rd and mocking it a little bit. Leon didn't have one of his goalies in the line-up on Tuesday, as Marty Turco was a healthy scratch for the Stars, giving rookie goaltender Matt Climie a start instead. Turco is scheduled to start the Stars final home game this season on Thursday, so there is definitely something to look forward to there.
