Bad news for the Senators, as Ian Mendes from Sportsnet is reporting that Filip Kuba has undergone surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back today and it will keep the defenseman out of the line-up for the next month. This is not good news for a team that is on the verge of the playoffs, already having clinched a spot and waiting to get going in the Spring dance.
Kuba has been having a tough season with the Senators, falling to injury a few times already this season. He's only managed to play in 53 games for the Senators and picked up only 28 points (3 goals, 25 assists) in the process, which is down from the 40-point pace he set last season. At the beginning of the week, he was ranked 298th in pool scoring, which has likely fallen into the 300's this week. Yes, it's been a tough year indeed.
Despite the tough season, Larry has had a pretty good defensive group in his Draft team, ranking tops in the pool all season. Going into Wednesday's action, he holds a 12-point advantage over Stuart in that category, which should hold for the rest of the season. The loss of Kuba may hurt his chances though of staying with the money winners, since most teams are rocking a pretty healthy team overall.
If you're thinking that the Senators are going to make the second round of the playoffs, but no further, Kuba may have been on your radar when picking your Playoff Pool team this year. Without Kuba, the Senators have a lessened chance of making it out of the first round, but its questionable as to how much they actually lost in the injury their defenseman.
