It was somewhat of a long shot to make the roster this season, but Bruins centre Trent Whitfield likely won't have a chance to earn a spot in the 2011 season after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon this weekend, as per some reports today. Whitfield reportedly suffered the injury in his pre-camp workouts, which must be a tough pill to swallow for the 33-year old forward.
In 2010, Whitfield played in 16 games with the Bruins, picking up a single assist, but with the depth down the middle for the Bruins into the coming season, including drafting Tyler Seguin, it was highly unlikely that Whitfield was going to make the team after camp, but he would have been in consideration for mid-season call-ups.
