He could have been picked as the number one overall player in the Entry Draft, so he is going to be paid like the number one player in the Entry Draft. Tyler Seguin signed his entry-level deal on Tuesday, a 3-year deal said to be worth upwards of $3.75 million with hitting his bonuses, which sounds about right for the guy who was neck-in-neck down the home stretch with Taylor Hall, according to many scouts. The next question becomes, how do the Bruins manage to fit him under the cap for the 2011 season, if he's good enough to make the team?
Seguin impressed a lot of people in the 2010 season with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL, racking up 106 points in 63 games and winning the CHL's Top Draft Prospect honour at the year-end ceremony. As a centre, he does possess a lot of the attributes to be a franchise player, according to many reports, so the Bruins would do well to groom him into one. I would imagine that the Bruins brass would be waiting to see how he looks in the big camp with men before they start tossing contracts around to make room for the 18-year old, especially since his contract could slide a year, when the team could more easily fit him in.
