The Blackhawks were able to add a little more depth to their blueline on Tuesday afternoon/evening, by signing Nick Boynton to a new 1-year deal worth $500,000. Boynton was able to play ball for the Blackhawks, taking the league minimum in order to sign on with the Cup champs, down from last year's cap hit of $1.5 million.
In 2010, Boynton spent some time in the minors between stops in Anaheim and Chicago, limiting his time in the regular season to just 49 games, scoring 1 goal and adding 7 assists. With Chicago's depth now being challenged with the salary cap, there is a pretty good chance that Boynton will see some extra time with the club, which could boost his numbers a bit. He will have some competition for the last few spots with Jordan Hendry and John Scott, so it will be a good fight.
