The rumours were indeed true that the Thrashers only acquired Donald Brashear to buy out the remaining 1-year, $1.4 million deal he had after acquiring him from the Rangers. Since the deal was a 35+ contract, meaning Brashear signed the deal after turning 35 years old, the Thrashers will have to absorb the entire cap hit for only the one season in the buyout and now he is an unrestricted free agent once again.
