Saved from the depths of staying in Europe, the Blackhawks managed to use the NHL out clause in Jordan Hendry's European contract to sign him to a 1-year, $600,000 deal on Thursday. Hendry signed a deal a couple of weeks ago with a European club, which looked like the safe way to keep a job for the 2011 season, with all of the doubt and lack of cap space in Chicago.
Hendry played in 43 games for the Blackhawks in 2010, scoring 2 goals and adding 6 assists and he should have an inside run at a job with the team for the 2011 season, thanks in large part to his smaller cap hit. Right now, I have him slotted in as the Blackhawks 5th defenseman, which may not equate to a whole lot of points, but on a likely potent team like Chicago, he could end up with 15 points or so.
