The Carolina Hurricanes appear to be keen on their first pick in the 2011 Entry Draft this Summer, Ryan Murphy, as they have signed him to his entry-level contract on Friday, also having him in main camp, starting today. Murphy signed a 3-year deal, reportedly worth $832,500 per season, plus a $277,000 signing bonus.
Murphy has impressed at many levels, as you could see in the Hurricanes presser announcing the signing, and with a questionably shallow blueline in Carolina, there is a chance that Murphy could leapfrog a couple players and put himself into a good situation on the back end in training camp.
I would rate Murphy's offensive potential fairly well and if he makes the club this year, plays the whole season, he could be a 20-point defenseman (with potential for more), which eclipses a few defensemen already on the list.
