The Canucks are now expecting to see some of their key components back in their line-up a little later than first thought.
Centre Ryan Kesler was hoping to be back in the line-up for the start of the regular season, but his hip is not progressing quite as well as he would have hoped after off-season surgery, so the projected time frame for his return is the middle of November. His original projected date of return was October 25th, from the 10 weeks after surgery, so that could also be a realistic date still.
Winger Mason Raymond, who suffered a vertebrae compression fracture in the Cup Finals in June, had a scheduled return date of the beginning of October from four months after the injury, but that has also seen a setback to the middle of November, trying to ensure that he gets back at 100%. Raymond's return in November seems a little more likely, given the nature of the injury.
Centre Manny Malhotra underwent some more eye procedures in the off-season, making sure that he would be able to withstand the rigours of the long NHL season, which has given him a slight setback in training camp. Malhotra is expected to miss out on the next 2-to-3 weeks worth of practice, possibly missing out on opening night as well. His projected return date, given the full three weeks, is October 10th.
All three players are included on the Selection Sheet pool and all three are projected to be a part of the draft pool this year, but given their injuries, it will be a 'buyer beware' situation. All three should be taken with a grain of salt and possibly have their projections adjusted.
